Unusual Weather Patterns Hit Southern California

Southern California experienced another bout of rain and cold temperatures on Sunday, accompanied by mountain snow and a slight chance of thunderstorms.

Rainfall Predictions and Snow Levels:

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), most areas were expected to receive half an inch of rain or less.

Snow levels might drop as low as 3,500 feet, potentially leading to light snow over the Grapevine stretch of the Golden State Freeway.

Weather Delays for Los Angeles Dodgers Games:

Unusual weather conditions delayed both of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ games against the San Diego Padres.

The slow-moving storm passing through the area pushed back scheduled starting times nearly an hour. Despite the delays, both games proceeded without significant issues.

Gusty Winds and Temperature Ranges:

Gusty winds were forecasted in some areas, with highs mostly in the 50s in Los Angeles County and the low to mid-60s in Orange County. Wind speeds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph were expected in the Antelope Valley.

Weather Advisories and High Surf Advisory:

An NWS winter weather advisory lasted until 5 p.m. Sunday for the San Gabriel Mountains and the Highway 14 Corridor, including areas like Acton, Mount Wilson, Mount Baldy, Wrightwood, and Angeles Crest Highway.

A high surf advisory lasted until 9 p.m. Sunday for the Malibu coast and Los Angeles County beaches, warning of waves reaching 4 to 8 feet and dangerous rip currents.

Transition to Dry and Warmer Weather:

The weekend’s storm system was anticipated to be followed by dry and warmer weather, with daytime temperatures expected to rise quickly into the 70s.

Overnight lows throughout the week were forecasted to be in the upper 40s and 50s.
