Cooler Temperatures and Light Rain Expected to Start in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is forecasted to experience colder temperatures and some light rain over the upcoming weekend, marking a damp start to May.

According to National Weather Service meteorologist Rose Schoenfeld, L.A. County has about a 30% chance of rain from Saturday into Sunday morning.

Rainfall totals are anticipated to range between 0.1 inch and 0.25 inches in lower elevations, with the possibility of higher amounts in mountainous regions.

Temperature Outlook:

Temperatures are set to decrease over the weekend as increased air flow from the Pacific Ocean heightens marine layer clouds and the influence of the sea breeze.

Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at UCLA, notes a pattern of weak but potentially colder low-pressure systems moving across the West Coast in the coming weeks, which may keep temperatures below normal values.

Midweek Forecast:

By Tuesday, temperatures are forecasted to range from the upper 60s around the coast to the low 80s in warmer areas such as the Santa Clarita Valley, San Fernando Valley, and Antelope Valley.

Gradual temperature declines are expected throughout the week, with interior regions like Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley reaching the upper 70s by Thursday.

Weekend Temperature Projection:

Heading into the weekend, temperatures will cool further, with coastal areas reaching the mid-60s and warmer spots, including valley areas, hovering in the mid-70s.

Downtown Los Angeles is expected to see temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s. Sunday’s temperatures are forecasted to struggle to reach 70 degrees for the region, with Downtown Los Angeles expected to be around 69.

Extended Outlook:

Below-normal temperatures could persist until at least Tuesday, according to Schoenfeld, with a potential warming trend starting thereafter.
