More than 120 horses and dogs seized due to alleged neglect by a single owner are now up for adoption in Riverside County.
The animals, comprising roughly 80 horses and 40 dogs, were confiscated in late March following an investigation into possible animal cruelty and are currently housed at the county’s San Jacinto shelter.
Challenges and Preparation:
Securing adequate space and accommodations for the animals posed challenges. Still, the shelter’s experienced staff members have risen to the occasion, ensuring the animals are cared for appropriately during their stay.
The available canines span a wide range of ages, from litters of puppies to older dogs, all in need of new homes.
Puppies as young as eight or nine weeks old and older puppies aged 14 to 16 weeks are among those ready for adoption.
Ongoing Investigation:
While the owner remains under investigation for animal cruelty, no arrests have been made yet. Multiple complaints were lodged against the individual over the past 18 months, prompting the intervention by Riverside County Animal Services.
Shelter staff observed signs of neglect among the seized animals, including a potential lack of food. Efforts are underway to ensure they receive proper nourishment and care. The horses, in particular, need additional food and attention.
Adoption Process:
Interested individuals can visit the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus in person from Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., to view the available animals for adoption. Alternatively, they can explore adoption options through the shelter’s online pet finder.
