Located at the heart of the Los Angeles Arts District, kodō hotel and restaurant is a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The century-old firehouse has undergone a two-year transformation and combines omotenashi, Japanese mindset meaning ‘to wholeheartedly look after guests’, and contemporary living to become the perfect space that celebrates nature and simplicity.

For the launch on January 23rd, the kodō team is excited to introduce their passion project to the public. Guests can expect an elegant night of celebration filled with great refreshments and even better company. To ensure a lively crowd that represents the Los Angeles culinary scene, kodō has invited loyal kodō fans, locals, influencers, and media contacts to the event.

The night will begin with a VIP reception, including tours of the restaurant and hotel at 5PM. Guests will engage in conversations with fellow publishers, editors, influencers, and neighboring companies accompanied by champagne and hors d’oeuvres. Then, at 7PM, the restaurant will open to the public for a celebration. This portion of the night will include a DJ as well as an art installation by Lachlan Turczan. In addition, photographers will be present to capture the joy.

Designed by Emi Katawaki and Jen Whitaker, kodō is a multi-experiential space that seamlessly flows from cafe, to restaurant, to hotel. Katawaki tapped into her kyoto roots infused modern Japanese minimalism into the space while Whitaker added masculine sensibilities and clean lines, creating a harmonious balance.
The Japanese-fusion restaurant is led by head Chef Alex Suzuki. Chef Alex started his journey at Thomas Keller’s French bistro, Bouchon. He then moved to Japan to master sushi & kaiseki by working at a traditional ryokan. Chef Alex now utilizes French and Japanese techniques to bring the kodō menu a fun flare of tradition, combining charcoal-grilled dishes with fresh fish and seasonal seafood, to offer guests a unique and delightful dining experience.

The kodō restaurant offers diners a variety of menus, including signature dishes, special rolls, and à la carte items. Guests can also choose from wines, cocktails, sakes, liqueurs, beers, and non-alcoholic drinks to compliment their meal. kodō also gives guests the compelling option of a 12 course omakase experience, leaving the decision of what to eat up to the expert chef.
The boutique hotel extends the kodō experience to a calming retreat from the beautiful chaos of L.A. Staying on theme with minimalist Japanese design, each room is named after a natural element. Each room has a similar calming feeling, and the rooms to choose from are: Room 1 – 椛 Momiji / Maple, Room 2 – 泉 Izumi / Water, Room 3 – 苔 Koke / Moss, Room 4 – 空 Sora /

Sky, Room 5 – 風 Kaze / Wind, Room 6 – 岩 Iwa / Rock, Room 7 – 月 Tsuki / Moon, Room 8 – 炭 Sumi / Charcoal, Room 9 – 影 Kage / Shadow.
