Tech Giants Invest in Figure AI, a Startup Developing Human-Like Robots

As per Bloomberg News sources, leading figures in the tech industry, including Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com, Nvidia, and others, are reportedly investing in Figure AI, a startup focused on developing human-like robots.

Funding Round and Valuation:

According to the report, figure AI is raising approximately $675 million in a funding round, which values the company at around $2 billion before the infusion of capital.

Jeff Bezos’ investment firm Explore Investments LLC is committing $100 million to the venture, while Microsoft is injecting $95 million. Additionally, Nvidia and an Amazon-affiliated fund contribute $50 million, signaling significant confidence in Figure AI’s potential.

Surge in AI Startup Investments:

The launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in November 2022 has ignited a surge in investments in artificial intelligence startups. Investors are betting on these startups, believing they could outpace larger competitors in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Aside from major tech players, Figure AI has garnered support from various backers, including Intel’s venture capital arm, LG Innotek, and Samsung’s investment group. Venture firms like Parkway Venture Capital and Align Ventures also participate in the funding round.

Additional Investors:

As highlighted in the report, ARK Venture Fund, Aliya Capital Partners, and Tamarack are among the other investors contributing to the startup’s growth.

Amazon, Nvidia, Microsoft, and Intel have declined to comment on the matter. Similarly, Figure AI and other entities mentioned in the report have not immediately responded to Reuters’ requests for comment.

Previous Funding and Company Focus:

The figure, based in Sunnyvale, California, previously raised $70 million in its initial external round, led by Parkway Venture Capital. 

The company specializes in developing general-purpose humanoid robots that operate in diverse environments, from warehouses to retail settings.
