Authorities Investigate Second Case of Unauthorized Flight Boarding at LAX

Federal authorities are conducting an inquiry into another unauthorized boarding incident at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), marking the second such occurrence in three months.

Last week, a woman bypassed TSA checkpoints at Nashville International Airport and boarded an American Airlines flight to LAX without showing a boarding pass or identification.

TSA Clarification and Responsibility Allocation:

According to TSA, the woman circumvented an unmanned barrier to evade the ID checkpoint but underwent standard security screening before boarding. TSA asserts that it becomes the airline’s responsibility to verify passengers’ tickets post-security checkpoint.

American Airlines has refrained from public comment on the incident, leaving the matter without official clarification from the airline.

Detainment and Investigation Outcome:

Upon arrival at LAX, the woman was detained and questioned, though no charges have been filed against her.

In November, a Russian man arrived at LAX from Copenhagen without a passport, visa, or plane ticket, prompting federal investigation and detention by Los Angeles customs authorities.

The FBI investigated the November incident, highlighting the seriousness with which federal authorities address unauthorized boarding incidents.
