Ford Halts Shipments of 2024 F-150 Lightning for Quality Checks

Ford Motor announced on Friday the suspension of shipments for all 2024 model year F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks to conduct quality checks.

The halt, initiated on February 9, addresses an undisclosed quality concern. Despite the pause, the automaker has not provided a timeline for resuming shipments, which commenced in January.

Launch of Newly Designed Gas-Powered F-150 Trucks:

While the electric pickup shipment remains on hold, Ford has initiated deliveries of the newly designed gas-powered 2024 model F-150 pickups to dealerships this week.

The company anticipates increasing shipments following comprehensive launch quality inspections in the forthcoming weeks to ensure adherence to high standards.

Production and Demand Dynamics:

Ford’s F-150 Lightning EV truck production continues despite the shipment pause. Last month, the automaker announced plans to reduce EV truck production due to lower-than-expected demand for electric vehicles.

However, production of the gas-powered F-150 trucks appears to have encountered storage challenges, with reports suggesting accumulation in southeast Michigan since December.

Adjustments in Production Plans:

In response to evolving market conditions, Ford has adjusted its production plans.

It intends to produce approximately 1,600 F-150 Lightning EV trucks per week starting in January, down from the initially planned 3,200.

Despite these modifications, Ford experienced a notable increase in F-150 Lightning sales in the U.S. last year, reaching 24,165 units, representing a 55% surge from 2022.
