The Powerball jackpot surged to an estimated $975 million following Saturday night’s drawing, as no ticket matched all six numbers. This extended a nearly three-month period without a major jackpot winner.
The numbers drawn for the latest Powerball drawing were 12, 13, 33, 50, and 52, with the red Powerball number being 23.
Prolonged Winless Streak:
The absence of a jackpot winner marked the 38th consecutive drawing without a top prize being claimed. This streak is approaching the record of 41 consecutive drawings, which occurred twice in 2022 and 2021.
The current $975 million prize is for a single winner who opts for an annuity over 30 years. Alternatively, a winner choosing the cash option would receive $471.7 million. However, both prizes would be subject to federal taxes, with additional state taxes applicable in many states.
Growing Jackpots and Increased Ticket Sales:
As the jackpot swells, ticket sales escalate, making it increasingly challenging to secure the winning combination. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot for Saturday’s drawing were 1 in 292.2 million.
