Killer Mike Arrested at Grammy Awards After Winning Three Grammys

Rapper and activist Killer Mike, whose real name is Michael Render, was arrested at the Grammy Awards on Sunday after winning three Grammys, including his first in more than two decades. 

The arrest occurred after an altercation inside Crypto.com Arena, where the Grammys occurred. Killer Mike was escorted in handcuffs by Los Angeles police.

Grammy Wins and Arrest Circumstances:

Killer Mike had a joyous moment at the Grammys’ Premiere Ceremony, winning awards quickly for best rap performance, rap song, and rap album. 

The arrest stemmed from an altercation inside the arena around 4 p.m., leading to Killer Mike being booked on a misdemeanor charge. 

He was released on his recognizance later in the evening and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 29.

Killer Mike’s third Grammy of the night was for Best Rap Album for “Michael.” He celebrated the victories by shouting out, “Sweep! Atlanta, it’s a sweep!”

Before the 2023 Grammys, Killer Mike’s last Grammy win was in 2003 for “The Whole World,” which won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. He is a member of Run the Jewels, known for critically acclaimed albums. 

Killer Mike has also been a social-political activist, addressing inequality and race relations issues and supporting political campaigns.

Killer Mike has significantly impacted beyond music, hosting the Netflix documentary series “Trigger Warning with Killer Mike” and being a vocal supporter of social and political causes. 

His role in calming a protest against police brutality in Atlanta showcased his advocacy for social justice.
